Once you have identified the problem area using various fault location techniques, pinpointing the exact sheath defect can still be a challenge. The damage may be limited to a tiny pinhole that is barely visible, or it may be located on the underside of a buried cable.

Over the years, many creative solutions have been developed to address this practical challenge. The IT20 sheath tester is designed to detect these difficult-to-find defects in a fast, reliable, and professional way.

The test probe wraps around the cable as you rotate it, ensuring full coverage of the cable sheath. It then generates short, low-energy high-voltage pulses of up to 20 kV. At the point of damage, a visible and audible spark is produced, allowing even the smallest or nearly invisible defects to be identified immediately.
